The ASEAN–Korea Centre Explores People-to-People Cooperation with ASEAN Study Center FISIP UI
Depok, November 25, 2025

The ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) conducted an official visit to the ASEAN Study Center (ASC) and International Relations Department, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Indonesia on November 25, 2025. The visit focused on exploring future collaboration, particularly in strengthening People to People (P2P) connectivity between South Korea and ASEAN countries.

During the meeting, AKC shared its strategic priority in enhancing P2P relations through academic exchange and youth engagement. The development of internship opportunities for Korean university students in ASEAN countries was one of the key initiatives discussed. Through this program, AKC aims to encourage young scholars to gain first-hand regional experience while fostering deeper cultural and academic understanding between Korea and Southeast Asia.

AKC has also established partnerships with various universities across ASEAN and is now expanding its network to include regional think tanks. This expansion is viewed as a strategic step to strengthen the cooperation between ASEAN and Korea in education, research, and public diplomacy.

The ASC warmly welcomed AKC’s initiatives and expressed a strong interest in further discussions regarding internship and fellowship schemes for ASEAN studies. The Department of International Relations has previously hosted international students, including students from China, and remains committed to expanding its international academic environment.

Both institutions affirmed their shared commitment to improving public perceptions of the Korean and Southeast Asian communities. They emphasized that people-to-people programs, especially those involving youth and academic mobility, will serve as a cornerstone for sustainable ASEAN–Korea relations in the future.*****
